Root Canal Therapy

Traditionally, if the nerve tissue of a tooth became infected, the whole tooth would have to be extracted.

Fortunately with root canal treatment, we can save your tooth from extraction by simply removing the infected tissue. This treatment is undertaken when the inner tissue (or pulp) of the tooth becomes badly infected, and if this issue is left untreated, it can lead to an abscess or tooth loss.

Symptoms of infected nerve tissue

It is important to note the early warning signs of an infected nerve tissue, and book an appointment at our dental practice as soon as they appear. Symptoms of infected nerve tissue include:

  • Toothache and sensitivity
  • Deep tooth decay
  • Severe gum disease
  • Trauma to the tooth or jaw
  • Pus around the infected tooth
  • Swelling gums
  • Swollen facial

The root canal procedure

Contrary to popular belief, root canal treatment should not cause any more discomfort than that of a regular filling. Our friendly dentist will gently drill into the crown of your infected tooth to access the root canals and remove the infected tooth pulp.

Your canals have to be thoroughly cleaned, this procedure may take a few appointments to complete depending on how severe the case is, your tooth will then be permanently sealed and may be re-enforced with a dental crown.
