Composite Fillings

We can replace your amalgam fillings with an aesthetically pleasing composite filling material.

Amalgam is comprised from an alloy containing around 50% mercury. Some people believe that this can leak toxic mercury vapour into the mouth when chewing, but regardless of this fact this material is an environmental hazard and is not used in our practice.

Amalgam fillings are also unpopular because they:

  • Do not blend with the colour and texture of natural tooth enamel.
  • Expand and contract in response to temperature changes in the mouth, which can cause your natural tooth to crack.

Amalgam fillings are simply packed into the tooth and do not form a complete seal, which can allow decay to continue to spread underneath the filling.

The benefits of composite fillings

The composite filling material we use in our practice is a great alternative to traditional amalgam fillings. This material can be colour matched to the exact shade of your natural tooth enamel, creating a seamless and aesthetically pleasing result.

Composite fillings are 100% free from toxic mercury, and do not respond to temperature changes within the mouth. These fillings are a great way to repair teeth with minor damage, and if extensive damage has occurred, we can provide inlays and onlays to repair your teeth.
